ABOUT BEARDSMAN™ OIL CO.

I’m the Beardsman. We make things from oil.

I’m Jason. I have a beard. That doesn’t automatically make me an expert. Over a decade of study and manufacturing does.

Beardsman™ Oil Co. is an independent grooming company with roots on Boston’s North Shore. I started it in 2009, making products I wanted to use myself.

Oils, butters and waxes became beard oils and balms. Soap batches became bars for the shower and soaps for shaving. Different formulas, different jobs, all coming from the same interest in making things that work.

Today, we make beard care, shave goods, soap and more, in small batches.

THE PEOPLE

The people behind the orders.

I’m Jason Dorr, founder of Beardsman™ and a cabinetmaker by trade. I’ve spent most of my working life making things. Developing a formula scratches much the same itch as building something in the shop: work out what it needs to do, make it, use it, and figure out what needs changing.

Danielle is my partner in life and in Beardsman™. Don’t be surprised when you see her name on a note tucked into your order or find her answering your emails.

Her cancer treatment took her out of the workforce. It also changed how I thought about bringing this business back. I could have lost her. Getting to build something together now is a win I intend to celebrate.

Returning products, familiar customers, new faces and plenty of work still ahead.

“Love the handwritten notes. Shows we aren’t just numbers we are appreciated customers.”

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Good products. Straight answers.

Beard oil conditions hair and the skin beneath it. It doesn’t grow a beard for you. A scent description should help you choose a scent. An ingredient list should tell you what’s in the bottle.

We want you to understand what you’re buying and what you can reasonably expect from it.

That carries through to the rest of the business. Describe the products clearly. Answer questions honestly. If something goes wrong with an order, help sort it out.

What beard oil does, and what it doesn’t ↗

Make good products. Be straight about what they do. Don’t make ridiculous promises.

FROM OILS TO FINISHED PRODUCTS

The ingredients are the beginning.

We formulate, make, fill and label our grooming products in small batches. We pay attention to how they spread, rinse, hold and smell, because those are the things you notice when you use them.

That work extends beyond our own label. We supply Beardsman™ products wholesale and manufacture products for other beard companies and boutique brands. Hair care, skincare, lotions, soaps and more: our experience is broader than the name on the bottle.

Throughout 2027, we plan to bring more of that experience into the Beardsman™ range, with a carefully chosen selection of useful products introduced as they’re ready.

Our ingredient glossary explains what goes into our formulas, while the Journal takes a closer look at how the products work.

BEARD OPTIONAL

There’s more here than beard oil.

If you have a beard, we make oils, balms, washes, conditioner and moustache wax. If you shave, there are shave soaps, aftershaves and safety razors.

And if you wash your hands, take a shower or occasionally need lip balm, there’s something here for you too.

You don’t have to have a beard to enjoy Beardsman™.

THE SOAP PROGRAM

Buy a Bar. Give a Bar.

Giving soap is part of why we sell it.

The program began in 2016. An early donation brought approximately 250 bars to Beverly Bootstraps in Massachusetts. The organizations distributing the soap helped us understand why smaller, individually wrapped bars were more useful for handing out to individual people.

Today, each qualifying full-size bar sold supports four approximately one-ounce donation bars.

The full story includes those early donations, what we learned and how the program works today.

ESTABLISHED 2009 · RELAUNCHED 2026

Since 2009.

Beardsman™ grew through returning customers, conversations at events and people telling their friends. There were wholesale orders, collaborations, beard competitions and a lot of miles between the shop and the next vendor table.

Then the business went quiet.

In 2026, we started bringing it back. Old favorites first, small runs and more products as we’re ready to make them.

The archive collects the longer history through photographs, early bottles, labels, event records and other pieces recovered along the way. If you remember us from the first time around, you may recognize a few things.
